Marriage Register No. 2
In transcribing this register and publishing it on the internet, some abbreviations have been made. Readers may assume that all the men and women were unmarried and single, unless a letter (w) appears after the name (= widower or widow). The original marriage register also gives details of the legal basis for authorising the wedding to take place. These are not reproduced here.

All the wedding ceremonies recorded in these next two pages were celebrated in St John's Church, with the exception of four. The marriage of the Rev. John Chubb Ford and Rebecca Clinton Sproston in January 1853 was held in the British Legation, Buenos Aires. The three wedding services in May 1867 of Danish subjects, celebrated by the Rev. Thomas P. Powell, were conducted in Tandil.

Officiating Ministers
Between 1851 and 1872 the following were the officiating clergy at St John's (English) Church, Buenos Aires.
Henry Martyn Faulkner, Chaplain 1847 to 1853;
John Chubb Ford, Church School Master, 1851 to 1853; Chaplain, 1853 to 1870;
George Ogilvie, Assistant Chaplain, 1856 to 1857;
Thomas Prosser Powell, Assistant Chaplain, 1865 to 1868;
Thomas Edward Ash, Acting Chaplain, 1870 to 1871;
Francis Neville Lett, Assistant Chaplain, 1870 to 1877;
Francis Smith, Chaplain, 1871 to 1885.

In addition, the following two clergy travelled across the River Plate from Uruguay to conduct several weddings:
Samuel Adams, British Chaplain at Montevideo;
John Shiells, Itinerant Chaplain, and subsequently Chaplain at Paysandú and Fray Bentos, 1868 to 1873.
